A New Team

At the end of the last phase I had to consider whether or not I wanted to form and lead a team to develop my Sea Monster Exploration game, or if I wanted to join up with Flora and develop her game about Swarms. I ended up sitting down and talking with Flora, and Jacob joined us. The three of us came to the conclusion that each of our game ideas shared a common theme, which is the ocean. My overall theme was ocean-based, while Flora and Jacob both had ideas that linked to sea life. With this in mind, we felt it would be a good idea to join forces and create a team. This was also due to the fact that we also liked each other's ideas the most out of the presentations given in Phase 3.

We then discussed the loose ideas we had for our games since Phase 3, as well as the skills we could bring to the team. I definitely leaned more towards Flora's game concept, and Jacob felt the same. Thus, it was decided that we would be developing Flora's game. I will describe the game in detail on the Key Features page.

Overall, I feel like this is a really strong team in terms of skill, ability, and enthusiasm. We each have unique skills and interests, but also have a lot of overlap. Jacob specialises in programming, Flora specialises in 3D modelling, and I have an interest in animation and VFX. However, there is also an overlap of skills so that the workload for one task is never completely on one person. Jacob also models and animates in 3D, Flora is knowledgeable about programming, and I am interested in 3D modelling and programming. Plus, we are all incredible interested and passionate about the game idea and how we would be able to make it.

My only concern about my role in this team is my lack of knowledge about 3D Modelling. I specialise in 2D art and animation, and Flora's game will be in 3D. I have a small amount of knowledge about both modelling and 3D animation, as well as using Blender. This is something I am going to prioritise in my personal development. It is an area I have always been interested in, and I feel that making use of Flora and Jacob's knowledge will make this the most opportune time to refine my practice.
